Can I Trust God With Who I'm Becoming?
One of the biggest lies about identity is:
“This is just who I am.”
Maybe you've heard people say:
I've always had an attitude.
I've always done this.
My family is just like this.
I can't change.
But Jesus doesn't only forgive your past.
Jesus gives you a new life.
Second Corinthians 5:17 says:
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
Following Jesus doesn't mean you'll never struggle again.
It means your struggle no longer gets to tell you who you are.
Your mistake isn't your identity.
Your addiction isn't your identity.
Your anger isn't your identity.
Your past isn't your identity.
Jesus is.
And becoming who God created you to be is often a process.
So don't judge what God is doing in your life by one unfinished chapter.
Take a minute.
What part of my old identity have I continued carrying even though Jesus says I'm new?
Talk to God.
Jesus, help me stop identifying myself by the person I used to be. Thank You for making me new. Give me the strength to walk differently because I belong to You. Keep changing my heart, my thinking, my choices, and my life. Amen.
Live it out.
Finish this sentence:
“Because I belong to Jesus, I don't have to be __________ anymore.”
Then write:
“In Christ, I am becoming __________.”
Who gets to define me?
Not my mistakes.
Not my friends.
Not social media.
Not my feelings.
Not my circumstances.
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” — Isaiah 43:1
